The tops were spinning fast. ZAP! Charles's top spun toward the depot. But when he reached inside the bushes, SWISH, SWISH, SWISH, something moved.

The other boys ran, but not Charles. He found himself face to face with a real alligator. WHAP, WHAP, WHAP, the alligator wagged his tail like a friendly puppy. This was no ordinary alligator!

Now all Charles had to do was figure out a way to keep him. But the gator found trouble everywhere he went. No place seemed to be the right place for a gator. That is, until one night when the whole town was asleep...
